Christmas Letter 2022
Dear Members, Attendees’ and Supporters of Eden Baptist Church We are fast approaching the end of 2022 and I’m sure many may have a feeling of “good riddance.” And as it is spoken or shouted there may be a resounding “AMEN” as we say good bye to 2022. It has been an...
It’s Saturday, January 28 when I begin these thought and at the moment we are having snow showers with a reasonably warm temperature of 33 which makes it a warmer day than yesterday. The weather forecast at the moment for tomorrow (1/29/23) has the temperatures in the early 20’s and being mostly cloudy but it is Maine so only time will tell for Sunday, January 29, 2023. History is always interesting and often times remind us of events of the past that bring joy, happiness and sadness. In searching “this day in history” for 1/28 the first item that appeared occurred @ 11:38 a.m. 1/28/1986 when the space shuttle Challenger exploded on take off. Other events on 1/28 over the years: 1901 professional baseball’s American League if founded 1985 Music stars gather to record “We Are the World” January 29:1936 U.S Baseball’s Hall of Fame elects its first members: Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Matthewson and Walter Johnson. 1977 Roots premiers on television 1962: Peter, Paul and Mary sign their first recording contract 1845 Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poem “The Raven” was published. On this day in history for our year we are at day #29 in the year of the Lord, 2023. In P.K. Kent’s book "Be a Man," his comments for 1/29 came from Genesis 17:1 Gen 17:1 ESV When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, It is a call to get to know “Almighty God”, His name also known as “El Shaddai.” Kent used many of the names of God for the days surrounding day # 29. Here are some “Names of God” you might find interesting. His various names indicate the many aspects of His character. Day # 27 is “Yahweh” which means “I AM.” Exo 3:13-14 ESV Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” (14) God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” Day # 28 is “Elohim” – Strong One, Divine having to do with creation. Gen 1:1 ESV In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Day # 30 is “El Olam”- Everlasting God. Isa 40:28 ESV Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable Day # 31 is “Adonai” – A relationship with the Lord. Exo 4:10-13 ESV But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” (11) Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? (12) Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” (13) But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” Day # 32 is “El Elyon” – Most High, the Strongest One. Gen 14:20 ESV and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything. There you have a few of the names God is known by. I will share a few others next week. If you happen to read this and are in the area of 155 Old Bar Harbor Road, Salisbury Cove at our worship time of 9:00a, drop in, we’d love to have you enhance our worship time. If you can’t make it today, perhaps another Lord’s Day you will be able to join with us. Thanks to you who indicate a “Like” or “heart” or even if you didn’t like the items. Feed back is always good. Thank you for responding. Remember, you can hear / see Susan’s prelude on Gerry Mann’s FB page and also @ 8:50a on Eden Baptist Church’s FB page as a lead in to the remainder of our worship service which begins at 9:00 a.m. Have a great Lord's Day. 🙏❤🎼📖✝🙏
